On Chincoteague Island, we celebrate the beauty of the wildlife and the gift to live alongside it all year, but November offers us several opportunities to do so as a community beginning with Veterans Day Weekend. We hope you will join us for the special 3-Day Itinerary below:
Saturday, November 9
Check into the Refuge Inn and prepare yourself for an evening of fun benefitting the Museum of Chincoteague Island at the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company's new firehouse. This Annual Gala will be a Beatles-themed event, and festivities will begin at 5pm with live music and a silent auction. At 6pm, a gourmet dinner will be served. The event will close with a live auction and more live music by The Fab. To purchase your tickets, call the Museum of Chincoteague Island at 757-336-6117.
If you plan to arrive a little later in the evening, head to The Village Restaurant on Maddox Boulevard for dinner beginning at 5pm. Indulge in delicious seafood on your island vacation beginning with the Bacon Wrapped Scallops or Fried Oysters. Try the Seafood Stuffed Tomato or Crab Imperial and pair with your favorite wine or beer.
Sunday, November 10
Begin your day with a light breakfast and coffee to go from Amarin Coffee on Maddox Boulevard. We recommend the chocolate croissant and their medium roast arabica with cold foam. Enjoy a slow stroll down Maddox Boulevard or Main Street to begin your morning with the peaceful sights and sounds of Chincoteague Island.
Next, bundle up and head to the water for a boat tour! Pre-register for a Scenic Wildlife Boat Cruise with Daisey's Island Cruises. The tours will begin at 10am and 1pm and last for two hours. These cruises are an excellent way to see the wildlife on the island, and they visit all of the best spots to view the ponies. Additionally, they often visit the spots best known for viewing bottle-nosed dolphins through late fall. To book your spot on one of these cruises, visit their website.
In the early afternoon, head to Bill's Prime Seafood and Steaks to enjoy their Sunday Brunch specials. From 11-2pm, try the Brunch Burger or Bananas Foster French Toast paired with Bill's Bloody Mary or the Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita. After brunch, consider visiting local shops on Main Street like HollyHocks Home Decor and Wine Cheese & Gourmet. There, you will find treasures to remind you of your trip to the island, and maybe a few gifts for your friends and family as well!
Monday, November 11
Veterans Day is a special day throughout the country, and that is no exception on Chincoteague Island. We are grateful for those who have served and continue to serve our country. If you choose to spend this special weekend with us, we hope you will take the time to relax and unwind surrounded by the beauty of Chincoteague Island.
On November 11, the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge will be free to enter for the entire day. Bring your loved ones out to the refuge to enjoy hikes, cycling, and walking along the beach for miles. Visit multiple times throughout the day to experience the true beauty of the refuge.
The Island Community House will host morning yoga beginning at 8 am. For our veterans, the American Legion’s Chincoteague Post 159 will host a Veterans Cafe at 8:30am featuring free breakfast. Island Creamery has free ice cream for vets every year, and many other local businesses have special ways to honor those who served our country. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for additional updates on Veterans Day events and opportunities as they become available.
We hope to see you on Chincoteague Island again soon! Call us today at 757-336-5511 to book your next visit!
