New Year's Getaway Deal

Celebrate the transition from 2024 to 2025 with quiet solitude and quirky celebrations on Chincoteague Island. As part of our Virginia is for Lovers promotion, you can stay three nights for the price of two! Wrap up your Christmas aftermath or day at the office and head to Chincoteague. Stop along the way for lunch– if coming from Annapolis, consider stopping in Kent Island. If coming from the Hampton Roads, consider Cape Charles. If coming from Delaware, consider the quaint downtown vibes of Berlin. Arrive on Chincoteague in the afternoon and check in at the Refuge. This time of year, there’s a good chance your room will be ready so please stop by when you arrive.

The sun sets early, so if you arrive before 4:30, head on out to Assateague and walk or bike a mile down the Woodland Trail to the Bivalve Trail. Sunsets over Tom’s Cove at the end of this trail are some of the most private and serene you’ll find anywhere. 

Enjoy the Virginia is for Lovers menu at the Village Restaurant, featuring local specialties including oysters, clams, and crabs. After you’ve had your fill, head back to the Refuge and wind down in the tropical vibes of our indoor pool and hot tub.

Morning: Explore the Outdoors
Start your day with complimentary breakfast delivery. Enjoy a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and then set out for peaceful visit to the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. The winter season offers exceptional birdwatching opportunities, as thousands of migratory birds, including snow geese and tundra swans, make the refuge their temporary home along the Atlantic Flyway.​

We recommend that you walk or bike the Wildlife Loop or take a short uphill walk to the base of the historic Assateague Lighthouse for amazing photo opportunities.

Afternoon: Discover Downtown
Warm up with a quick lunch of Chicken Orzo soup with a grilled cheese at Famous Pizza, then head back to the room. Hang out that Do Not Disturb sign for a cozy nap, then dress for style and warmth. Head to Main Street to explore the boutique shops downtown like Sandy Sky’s and Hollyhocks, then take photos in the LOVE chairs. Watch the sun set on 2024 right there in the park. Enjoy dinner at Bill’s Prime Seafood & Steaks (make reservations!) and head to the Island Theater at 7pm to see The Rhythm Band (buy tickets in advance!) Tickets are $20 and include drink vouchers. After the music ends at 11, head across the street to the waterfront park to ring in the new year at the annual horseshoe drop and costume promenade.

Morning: Sunrise Renewal
Greet 2025 with the first sunrise of the year at Assateague National Seashore. This serene moment, paired with the sounds of gentle waves, is the perfect way to set intentions for the new year. Then defrost with a full breakfast buffet at Blackfin Island Grill to celebrate their one year anniversary!

Afternoon: Polar Plunge
Sign your waiver, don your costume (or not) and head on over to Christmas by the Sea’s annual Polar Plunge! At 1:25pm, take a dip or just watch the enthusiastic plungers experience the thrill of the Atlantic in January. Alternatively, take a short walk on the Island Nature Trail, a peaceful escape for walking or birdwatching.

Evening: Relax & Recharge
Wrap up your visit with drinks, appetizers, and the sunset over the channel at Ropewalk.  Enjoy one last dip in the heated pool, and  or an early evening walk along the waterfront. Many shops and galleries downtown will remain open for last-minute browsing before your departure.

 

• Pack Layers: While winters are mild, temperatures can dip in the evening, and the wind on the water can be chilly.
• Book early if you have requests: we have a lot of repeat guests who like to stay this week, and everyone has their favorite room or location! The hotel isn't usually full but book soon if you have room preferences.
