Summer is here, and the island is full of activities and memorable experiences to share with the family! There is no better way to spend your extended weekend than enjoying life on the shore. Join us as we celebrate our families and friends this month by taking advantage of the opportunities below.
Father’s Day is June 18! Show dad how much he means to you by planning a day trip to various island excursions. Begin your day with a flavored latte and pastry of your choice at Amarin Coffee USA. Next, head to Funland Amusements on Maddox Boulevard. There, your family can enjoy mini golf, an arcade, inflatables, bumper boats, and even a treasure post! From Funland Amusements, take a short walk over to Maria’s Family Restaurant. Their menu features something for everyone in the family including pizza, subs, fried chicken, Italian dishes, salads, and seafood.
Next, stop by Captain Steve’s Bait & Tackle to pick up everything you need from souvenirs to fishing supplies. Speak with the experts about locations to fish on the island, and spend a few hours bonding with dad by the water. Finally, there is nothing more beautiful than the Chincoteague sunset. Take a stroll on the beach in the early evening hours for more unforgettable backdrops to memories you will treasure for a lifetime.
Celebrate Juneteenth on the eastern shore from June 16-19. The Sturgis One Room School Museum in Pocomoke City, MD will host a presentation by Dr. Clara Small on African American History from 6:30-7:30 p.m on Friday, June 16. Light refreshments will be served. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. On Saturday, June 17, the 23rd Annual Juneteenth Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at Fresh Market Plaza in Exmore, VA. The Unity Parade will start at noon. This event will feature music, food vendors, voter registration, a Juneteenth Queen Contest, and more.
On Monday, June 19, master storyteller Sheila Arnold will present “Invisible Threads” at the Island Theatre on Chincoteague Island from 7-9 p.m. During this presentation, Sheila will take the audience on an exploration of race in her life, the lives of her parents, and the life of her son.
