As temperatures continue to drop, it is the perfect time to visit Chincoteague Island. Walks along the beach in January often result in unique collections on conch shells and a personal ocean experience that may change your life. In addition to the quiet beaches, visitors can enjoy a 15-mile trail system resulting in a wildlife adventure unlike any other. January is the perfect time for bird lovers to visit the island. Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is home to many distinctive and delightful species. Both beginner and expert bird watchers will enjoy the scenic opportunities offered on Chincoteague Island. According to Virginia eBird (www.ebird.org), several species including the Mute Swan, the Snow Goose, the Mallard, the Mourning Dove, the American Coot, and the Great Blue Heron were spotted in December. Waterfowl hunters can expect to take advantage of the following seasons: General Duck, Snow Goose, Canada Goose, Atlantic Brant, Merganser, and Tundra Swan.  The water and weather is unpredictable, so we recommend that you hunt with a local guide. We are happy to recommend a guide if you need one! We provide special amenities for hunters during hunting season, including a to-go breakfast, boat/trailer parking areas, cleaning station, and plucking machine. As is the case almost anywhere, participants must be aware of all hunting regulations, abide by daily possession limits, and purchase a Virginia hunting license.
