Hello everyone and welcome to FALL!
We had a very busy summer, filled with excitement and many wonderful guests. Highlights include a very rainy June, beautifully mild July and August, the busiest month in recent history (August, with 98% occupancy,) a downpour during the annual pony swim, completion of an update to the Sun & Stars Observation Deck, several appliance purchases (Guest washers & dryers, 2nd floor ice machine,) and even two historic rocket launches, Minotaur V-LADEE and Antares-Cygnus.
The Refuge was proud to host several large groups this summer, including several weddings, family reunions, and birthday getaways. Early in the summer, the Accomack County 4-H Camp Counselors held an overnight training here. We also hosted groups from NASA for training and launches– more on this in a future post! In the upcoming weeks, we look forward to seeing repeat guests from the Virginia Society of Ornithology as well as the Virginia Ducks Unlimited leaders conference.
Updates will be back to weekly now that things around the Inn have quieted down.
The ocean is warm, the mosquitoes are finally quieting down, and in a few short weeks the leaves and marsh will start to look like Fall. It’s our favorite time of year on Chincoteague. Weekends are still very busy but if you can make a trip to the Eastern Shore to see us during the week, chances are we’ll have a room for ya!
