One of our favorite events of the year is coming up, the Migratory Bird Day Celebration at the wildlife refuge. It’s held every year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day– this year that’s May 11. The entrance fee to Assateague will be waived (!!!) and the celebration itself is free to attend. There are a number of children’s crafts, adult activities, birdhouse construction, fine artists, exhibits, live animals, and wildlife talks scheduled between 10am and 3pm at the Bateman center.
We love taking our kids to this festival because of all the great hands-on activities. Some of the memorable ones over the years include pine cone bird feeders, DIY birdhouses, and paint-your-own plover. All of these make great Mother’s Day presents– we all know that handmade items are the best gifts, and all of these crafts are FREE to everyone! Even better!
